PANEL TECHNIQUE – LEVEL 3 BBBEE RECOGNITION STATUS

PANEL TECHNIQUE since its inception has had black ownership! I have always recognized people for their capabilities rather than the colour of their skin, proven by the fact that since 1991, when I took over the then dormant company, we gave 20% of its equity to previously disadvantaged persons. Today 30% is in the hands of ‘Blacks’!

On the 31st May 2007, we registered three of our employees as directors with the Registrar of Companies (CIPRO), two of which are categorised ‘Black” and point out that between them they have 29 years service with the company, which is in keeping with our philosophy, and that of the BBBEE Code of Good Practice, which as I see it, is to uplift those previously disadvantaged persons by giving them the opportunities to uplift themselves!

In terms of our Level 3 recognition status, it does give our clients and prospective clients an advantage with their own BEE procurement score card, as explained in the attached letter by Integra Strategies, an independent Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment advisory and transformation company.

PANEL TECHNIQUE embraces the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) Act No 53 of 2003 and the Codes of Good Practice as published, and firmly believes that this is the way forward to right the wrongs of the past by giving the Previously Disadvantaged the opportunities they were not afforded under Apartheid.

Foskor Richards Bay PDF Print E-mail

In the early hours of the morning of the 7th May 2007, a fire broke out close to the substation at Foskor's Phosphoric acid plant in Richards Bay. After the emergency fire services, who were assisted by the uMhlatuze fire department, managed to extinguish the flames, it became evident just how extensive this fire had been, crippling 50% of production at the plant.

On the 8th May, Panel Technique (Pty) Ltd were invited by Schneider Electric's Vic Strobel to join him on site to get to work assesing the damage. The timeframe to repair the damage was critical to Foskor and within 48 hours of the fire, we had a plan in action to refurbish and rewire all the Low Voltage Motor Control Centers within a period of 21days.

It seemed an impossible task to some but with a keen spirit and an reliable and experienced team, we made the commitment to Foskor to deliver within the timeframe laid out.

Our contract included the complete refurbishment of steelwork, 3 x Main LV Incomers and 265 x Low Voltage Direct on Line Motor starters ranging from 4kW to 132kW.

The repairs all round were a great success and credit must go to all who were envolved.

Not only did we have another happy customer, we were also recognized in the Schneider Electric "2006 new2 Trophies" campaign we were awarded a trophy for Customer Attitude.

GENERAL CONSTRUCTION AND TESTING
We utilize a "Bend and Weld" construction method with flush doors/covers.
Panels are fabricated and constructed completely prior to going through a 7 stage zinc phosphate dipping tanks.
It is the policy of Panel Technique when designing and assembling switchgear to pay particular attention to the safety of the end user, i.e. no live parts to be accessible without specifically defeating door interlocks or intentionally using a tool to remove cover plates.
We use two specific types of bus bar support systems, namely Siemens and Merlin Gerin depending on specified fault levels.

In 1999 we had our panels successfully tested, utilizing Merlin Gerin "Prisma P" bus bar supports, by S.A.B.S.
test report No: HC/84568/R27 A three-phase short-time withstand current of 50 kA-3 s, with the first major half-cycle peak value of 105kA was achieved.
Conductors from main bus bars to the incoming side of circuit breakers are calculated in accordance with fault levels and equipment manufacturers international test approvals.
All control wiring ends will have crimped "bootlace"  ferrules and colour coded to international colours for the control voltage used or to clients specification.

OUR WORKS AND PEOPLE
Our factory is demarcated into three sections, namely the sheet metal fabrication, pre-treatment and powder coating, and electrical assembly and wiring. Checks and tests are carried out at various stages of manufacture with complete mechanical and electrical testing before leaving our premises. Our test includes voltage testing up to 3000 volts and current testing up to 2000 amps.
We have three factory managers on the floor at all times, each of whom has over 20 years experience in their field and one who is a shareholder in Panel Techinique(PTY) Ltd.
The above are general standards, however we do cater for individual requirements combined with our experience and expertise in this field.
