PANEL TECHNIQUE
“Right people, better products!”
Panel Technique (Pty) Ltd was founded and registered in 1989 as a complete, autonomous Electrical Low Voltage Assembly (Panel) manufacturer, and today supplies LV assemblies throughout Africa, Europe and Australasia through a local distributor.
From humble beginnings, where the fabrication process was manual profiling and forming of the sheet steel to a modern, fully functional workshop, comprising CNC profiling, cutting and bending, with a unique 7 stage phosphate pre-powder coating treatment plant.
Since 2006, at the time it became mandatory in South Africa for all Low Voltage Electrical Assemblies to comply with the European (IEC) standards, Panel Technique has been at the forefront of compliance, with our 100% locally manufactured range of assemblies achieving full compliance with the Standards, as they are prescribed in South Africa, by submitting sample assemblies for certified testing at the South African Bureau of Standards, National Electrical Test Facility (NETFA).
As a SANS/IEC 61439 accredited supplier, coupled with our 30 years in the industry and over 490years of service from a staff compliment of 51 people, guarantees our promise of highest quality, competency and expertise at all times.
From the beginning, Panel Technique has always identified ‘People’ as being the key to a good business, hence our motto “Right people, better products’!

PT1000 – IEC/SANS Compliant LV Assembly
Due to varying industry standards and uncertainty in which direction the industry would ultimately follow in South Africa, in 2009 Panel Technique documented a new design as PT1000, and a sample assembly was submitted for testing to the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) National Electrical Test Facility (NETFA). Panel Techniques PT1000 range of Low Voltage Electrical Assembly, is 100% manufactured using local raw materials and labour, and one of the first to achieve full IEC SANS 61439 accreditation.
Although specializing in Low Voltage (<690volts) Motor Control Centre’s our expertise stretches into Industrial and Commercial, floor standing and wall mounting Distribution boards, Power Factor Correction panels, Automatic Mains failure (AMF) panels, PLC control and marshalling Panels, control desks and Local Isolating/Control Panels.

RECENT PROJECTS
“Manufacturing top quality products for big companies”
SAPPI WOODYARD
New Motor Control Centres
Sappi Limited, a global producer of dissolving wood pulp, speciality and packaging papers, printing and writing papers, and biomaterials, headquartered in South Africa, appointed Panel Technique for the supply of LV assemblies for the recent Woodyard Upgrade project at Sappi Saiccor. Panel Technique successfully delivered within time and budget, all new switchboards for this project. After commissioning, Chipping Line 7 was set to become Africa’s largest chipping line.
ZAMBIA SUGAR PLC
NAKAMBALA PRODUCT ALIGNMENT AND REFINERY UPGRADE
The Nakambala Product Alignment and Refinery Project for Zambia Sugar, a majority held subsidiary of the Illovo Sugar Africa Group included the construction of a modern, high-specification refinery to more than double current annual refined sugar production capacity to 100 000 tonnes, and increase the annual sugar production capacity from 420 000 tonnes to 450 000 tonnes, through a range of smaller factory improvements. Panel Technique was appointed by Bosch Projects and the client as the supplier of all LV assemblies for this project. Lead times of the electrical assemblies was a critical component to the successful delivery of the project. Our supply was complimented by weeks of on-site work where we retrofitted equipment into existing panels.
COCA COLA SABCO LV
ASSEMBLIES FOR NEW BOTTLING PLANT
Panel Technique was appointed for the supply of all Primary LV Distribution boards for the Coca-Cola Bottling Companies new world-class bottling facility in Matola Gare, near Maputo, Mozambique. The plant, built over three years at a cost of $130-million, is the largest green-field facility in Coca-Cola Sabco’s history across its seven-country regional market in Africa. The plant’s 300-ml glass bottling line – capable of bottling 48 000 bottles an hour – is the largest bottling line in Sabco’s regional footprint that includes Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda.
MERCEDES BENZ SOUTH AFRICA
W205 C-CLASS BODYSHOP
The award of this contract for the supply of LV assemblies for the construction of a new bodyshop, came in the wake of the selection of MBSA manufacturer’s East London plant as one of only four Daimler AG sites worldwide to build the new Mercedes W205. It was set to start producing this successor to the C-Class, with an investment of R5 billion in the new C-Class and the plant, to boost its capacity.
MPACT
WINDER UPGRADE
In order to keep the Mill on a level playing field with others of its kind, it was necessary to upgrade the controls of the winder. Apart from keeping up with technological changes in the world today, the upgrade of the controls of the Winder need to also allow for more convenient fault finding as well as more accessible spares when they are needed. The new MCC manufactured by Panel Technique is housed in a new substation building with access to the MCC from the paper machine floor making it convenient for personnel to work between the substation and the Winder. New MCC panels were designed and built according to a new standard of panels adopted at the mill, a design that has won the Southern Cross award in the Group.
VEOLIA KRUGER A/S
LOW VOLTAGE MOTOR CONTROL PANELS
Kafubu Water and Sewerage Company (KWSC) entrusted Veolia, through its subsidiaries Veolia Water Technologies and Krüger A/S, to rehabilitate and expand its water and wastewater infrastructures serving the Copperbelt region in northern Zambia. The USD 101.6 million contract aimed at improving the water and wastewater services in Ndola, Luanshya and Masaiti urban areas and strengthening the capacity of KWSC to operate the facilities in an efficient and sustainable way. With about 67% of water wasted through leakages in the distribution network and sewer overflows –flooding streets and causing serious hazards to health and property – the infrastructure required a complete overhaul.
The rehabilitation programme comprises approximately 147 km of distribution networks for drinking water; 21 groundwater wells; 6 raw water intake installations for surface water; 6 waterworks; and 18 pumping stations. In addition, the 9 existing wastewater treatment plants will be renovated, with approximately 30 km of sewer networks being upgraded. Panel Technique was appointed for the manufacture and supply of all Low Voltage motor control panels, together with some on site modifications to existing installed equipment.
